Removing and Replacing the HP Compaq 8510p 8510w Notebook PC Keyboard

HP Compaq 8510p 8510w Notebook PC Keyboard removal

Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below:

Before you begin
Put on your electrostatic discharge (ESD) wrist strap to avoid damaging any circuitry.
Remove all devices (such as diskettes and CD-ROMs) from the computer.
Power off the computer and any peripheral devices that are connected to it.
Disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet and then from the computer. When the computer is plugged into an AC power source, there is always voltage applied to the system board. You must disconnect the power cord from the power source before opening the computer to prevent system board or component damage.
Disconnect all peripheral device cables from the computer.

Static electricity
Static electricity can damage electrical components. Before removing or replacing a component, touch a grounded metal object to discharge static electricity. Also observe the following precautions to prevent damage to electric components and accessories:

To avoid hand contact, transport products in static-safe containers such as tubes, bags, or boxes.
Protect all electrostatic parts and assemblies with conductive or approved containers or packaging.
Keep electrostatic-sensitive parts in their containers until they arrive at static-free stations.
Place items on a grounded surface before removing them from their container.
Always be properly grounded when touching a sensitive component or assembly.
Avoid contact with pins, leads, or circuitry.
Place reusable electrostatic-sensitive parts from assemblies in protective packaging or conductive foam.

Disassembly
During disassembly, label each cable as you remove it, noting its position and routing. This will make the replacement of the cables much easier, and will ensure that the cables are rerouted properly to protect the cables.
Keep all screws with the units removed. The screws used in the computer are of different thread sizes and lengths; using the wrong screw in a component could damage the unit.

Remove the battery.

Loosen the two captive P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the HP Compaq 8510p 8510w Notebook PC keyboard to the base enclosure.

Turn the notebook right side up and open the display panel fully.

Slide the four plastic locking tabs toward the bottom edge of the keyboard to unlock the keyboard from the switch cover.

How to Replace Lenovo Ideapad G570 Series Laptop Screen

At some point in your lifetime, you'll probably end up in this situation: You own a perfectly good laptop, but you've broken the screen! By utilizing this guide, you can save yourself time and money while learning more about your computer! This guide will explain, step-by-step, how to replace the screen in your Lenovo G570 notebook computer.

Step 1
Before working on your laptop, check the warranty terms. If the machine is still under warranty, working on it yourself may void the warranty.

Step 2 — Prepare Your Workspace...
Gather the necessary tools, and make sure you have a large open space (such as a workbench) to work on.

Step 3
Remove the 2 rubber bumpers which cover the screws. (They are located on the bottom left and right corners of the bezel.)
Step 4
Remove the front plastic bezel from the screen using the following steps.
Pry up the bezel in the location depicted with a plastic opening tool or small flat-head screwdriver until you free the first few retaining clips.
Once a few clips are loosened, you can pry the bezel the rest of the way off by hand.

To do so, pull each side of the bezel outward and towards the center of the screen, until all of the retaining clips have been released.

Step 5
Remove the four screws (one in each corner) which attach the screen to the lid.

Step 6
Carefully pull the lid away from the screen, while keeping in mind that there are cables attached to the lid as well as the screen.
The lid will separate from the screen, but the cables will not. Lean it against something to avoid stressing the cables.

Step 7
Now, detach the lenovo ideapad g570 video cable from the back of the screen.
Proceed with caution, as the video cable is very easily damaged!

Step 8
Remove the 8 screws (4 on each side) which attach the lenovo idepad g570 hinges to the screen

Step 9
Remove the screen, and recycle it at your local dump or recycling center

Step 10 — Time to replace the screen!
Before you begin, be sure to put something on the lenovo ideapad g570 keyboard to protect the screen from being scratched

Step 11
Position the screen face-down on the keyboard, and line up the hinges with the holes on either side of the screen
Using your Philips-head screwdriver, replace the 8 screws (4 on each side)

Step 12
Connect the video cable!
Be careful not to damage the cable, or to touch the base of the circuit board on the monitor

Step 13
Lift the plastic lid up to the back of the screen, and press them together so that lid now hinges with the screen
Be careful that the cables which run along the bottom inside edge of the lid are not squished by the screen when you bring the screen and lid together!

Step 14
Replace the four screws that hold the screen and lid together
Snap the plastic bezel on, and replace the two screws which connect the bezel to the computer (reference step 4 for clarification)

How to Adjust Asus G73 CPU Cooling Fan Speed

A laptop is a preferred choice for computing needs by many people, as it provides flexibility and mobility. Students, company employees and homemakers use laptops to study, do their work and pay their bills respectively. Just like desktops, laptops have maintenance needs and addressing them can make the laptop function better. One of the needs that come up from time to time is adjusting the Asus G73 cpu cooling Fan speed; here are some tips to do so.

1. Check your laptop make and model and research how to adjust the Asus G73 CPU cooling fan speed that is specific to the brand. There is not one universal way to do this, so finding the exact model will help you do your research. Some brands have tips written in the user's manual.

2. Check in your laptop's BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) to see if the Asus G73 CPU fan speed is available. The BIOS provides an interface for a computer's hardware and software. This is where you can find the basic settings of the computer. You can go to the BIOS by doing a shutdown and upon restarting your computer, hitting F10 on your keyboard (F key and the number 10 key). You can change the settings from there by toggling the dropdown menu or prompt. Once done, go ahead and hit "Save."

3. Check if there is a chipset driver for a fan installed on your laptop. If there is one, you can adjust the Asus G73 CPU fan speed from there. The chipset is what controls the fan, network adapters, sound and video controllers depending what is on your chipset. You can find chipsets on your computer's motherboard.

4. Download the software to adjust fan speed if you cannot adjust it from your computer's BIOS. There is some software available for download, such "Speedfan." The software allows you to follow steps to adjust the speed of your Asus G73 CPU fan. Before purchasing the software, check first if it is compatible with your laptop. Get your laptop specs and contact the software maker's customer or technical support to find out if it will work for your laptop. Once they confirm, you may then proceed with buying and downloading the software.

5. Use the software carefully. Your laptop manufacturer may not support the software you are purchasing; therefore, you will use it at your own risk. If using the program negatively affects your laptop's performance, and you send it in for repairs, the manufacturer's warranty may not cover it if they discover that the software caused the problem.

6. Download CoreDuoTemp or smcFanControl to adjust the Asus G73 Fan speed of an Apple laptop such as the MacBook. Both of them will allow you to monitor and control the speed of your fan as well as the temperature.

7. Adjust the RPM (revolutions per minute) of your active Asus G73 Fan speed by sliding the mark to the right. You can also adjust the temperature this way.

8. Call your manufacturer's technical support to walk you through adjusting the fan speed settings. They should know what to do and what to avoid depending on the symptoms. If they cannot do it over the phone, they can send someone to you or they can ask you to send your laptop for adjustment of Asus G73 Fan speed.

How to Replace the Laptop Keyboard?

Enusre the laptop is fully powered off, unplugged from the wall, and the battery taken out.
Turn the laptop over. On some models icons indicating which screws are attached to the keyboard are displayed. If not, you may have to "eyeball" it if you can't find a breakdown for your model online.

Remove those screws with a T-8 or Phillips screwdriver.

Turn the laptop back over and open it up. Check and see if the keyboard is tucked under any plastic pieces. If so, find if those plastic pieces are screwed into anything, and unfasten them as well. If not, it probably uses clamps that can easily be removed.

Remove the plastic pieces carefully with a toothpick or plastic pick if there is any in the way.

Unscrew any screws at the top (if necessary) and remove the keyboard itself from top to bottom. You'll notice that the keyboard is connected with a thin, but wide, data cable to the system board at the bottom.

Take that same pick and lift the plastic connectors that hold in this data cable in place.

Carefully remove the data cable. Now the whole keyboard should be free.

Take the new keyboard out of the plastic, and slip the data cable back in between the plastic connectors on the system board. Make sure it's all the way in.

Use the pick to push the plastic connectors back into place, and make sure it's holding the data cable in.

Slip the keyboard itself into place, from bottom to top. Make sure the screw holes or clamps line up at the top.

Refasten the keyboard in place at the top.If you had to remove any plastic pieces, carefully snap them back in and replace any screws you had to remove.

Turn the laptop over and replace all of the keyboard screws.

Finally, put the battery back in and power on the laptop. If all has gone well, the keyboard should be functioning like brand new.

Lenovo Thinkpad T430 Keyboard and Touchpad Introduce

The Lenovo Thinkpad T430's keyboard is a departure for Lenovo; they switched to the increasingly popular Chiclet style with extra spacing between the keys. This has the most encouraging tactile feedback out of all the variants I've tried. It has a slightly more clicky sound than the traditional ThinkPad keyboards and the key travel isn't as long, though the feedback doesn't suffer as a result, dare I say it feels even more solid. Lenovo is offering a backlit keyboard courtesy of this new design, a first on a 'real' ThinkPad. It still has the Think Light for die-hard fans, though.

So what's the matter with it? Simply put, more than a few ThinkPad owners will say Lenovo botched the keyboard layout. The Home, End, PgUp, PgDn, Insert and Delete keys are all over the place instead of being clustered in a nice organized group at the top right. Also missing is the multi-colored keys such as the purple [Enter]. This bothers me in a way; the ThinkPad keyboard formula was exactly what many business users wanted and now they changed it - what was the reasoning? It doesn't make sense to the end user. I'm all for change but this is a step backwards.

The touchpad remains largely unchanged but the dimpled surface is slightly more pronounced. It feels almost too rough at first though I got used to it after a few days. The trackpoint "eraser" head in the center of the keyboard is also unchanged and remains the most intuitive version offered by any brand. The buttons for both the touchpad and the trackpoint are excellent with quiet, supple clicks.
