How to Create Keyboard Shortcuts for Programs in Windows XP
Do you prefer to keep your hands on the keyboard and use the mouse as little as possible? Want to start programs with a key combination instead of clicking through menus or desktop icons? It's easy to do if you're running Windows XP.

Steps
1,Right-click the desktop shortcut or program icon in the Start menu.
2,Click Properties.
3,Click the Shortcut tab.
4,Click in the Shortcut Key box.
5,Press the the combination of keys you want to use to start the program. The shortcut combination must consist of one character (letter, number, or symbol) plus at least two of the following three keys: CTRL, ALT, and SHIFT. For example, CTRL+ALT+P, CTRL+SHIFT+Z, or SHIFT+ALT+X.
6,Click OK. Now, every time that you press this key combination, Windows XP will automatically load the program.

Note:
You can only create keyboard shortcuts for program shortcuts on the desktop or the Start menu.
Keyboard shortcuts don't work if the desktop shortcut is a shortcut to another shortcut.
Keyboard shortcuts don't work if they conflict with a keyboard combination that is used in a program that is currently active. For example, if Microsoft Word is active, you cannot use the keyboard shortcut CTRL+SHIFT+A, because it is used by Word to change highlighted text to all caps.
